Gatto's Tires & Auto Service Celebrates 40 Years and 3 Generations in Brevard
MERRITT ISLAND, FL, September 21, 2011 /Automotive PR News/ -- In 1971, Apollo 14 was on the Moon and Mike Gatto was starting a family business that would still be thriving 40 years later. In 2011, Mike's daughter, Pam Gatto, runs seven Space Coast locations of Gatto's Tires & Auto Service, with her two sons, Scott and Mike, and son-in-law, Kiwi, representing the 3rd generation of Gatto family in business in Brevard.
Over the 40 years in Brevard County, the family has built a philosophy of business based on attention to quality work coupled with excellence in customer service. According to Pam Gatto, the number one rule is to hire quality people.
"We have a lot of good people who work for us," said Pam Gatto, President of Gatto's Tires & Auto Service, "and they often tell me that they love working with us because they can be honest and straightforward and do the right thing when they take care of the customer. "
Founder Mike Gatto spent 22 years in sales and marketing for Goodyear, before striking out on his own in 1971. His daughter Pam soon joined him and a great family business took off.
"Dad always told me," Pam Gatto said, "we don't sell tires and auto service. We sell safety and peace of mind."
Pam Gatto is no stranger to accomplishment, having been recognized by Florida Today as the Volunteer of the Year, by Space Coast Business Magazine Founders Forum as the Entrepreneur of the Year, served twice as the President of Florida Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association, and was elected as the first woman president of TANA (Tire Association of North America).
But perhaps the most prestigious award won by the Gatto family business is the "Top Shop Award" from Tire Review Magazine, besting all independent tire dealers to become the Top Shop in America. Judges in the national contest considered each semi-finalist entry in the following categories: customer service, expertise, community service, appearance, achievement and merchandising. Gatto's received the highest overall score among all entrants.
"We couldn't be more proud to have Gatto's as our Top Shop Award recipient," said Jim Smith, editor of Tire Review magazine. "We developed the contest to bring focus to what makes for a successful small business, especially one in a highly competitive industry like ours. The judges spent a great deal of time reviewing the entries and felt that Gatto's Tires & Auto Service excelled at all of the key attributes that we feel make for a successful and vital tire dealership."
"To help celebrate Gatto's 40th Anniversary," Pam Gatto said, "we have a special deal for special drivers. Anyone still driving a 1971 vintage vehicle can bring it in to one of our stores and get a free oil change. Obviously, a forty-year-old car has received a lot of TLC to keep it going, and we want to make sure that trend continues into the future. Also, we would like our customers to stop by and party like it's 1971. If they visit while wearing paisley bell bottoms (or other 1970's attire) they will get a coupon for $19.71 off their next purchase.
