Distracted Driving Law Focuses on Young Florida Drivers Report Miami Car Accident Attorneys

A Florida Representative is proposing new legislation that would make it illegal for minors to text and drive say the Miami Personal Injury Lawyers at the Miami Car Accident law firm of Grossman Roth.

BOCA RATON, FL, March 02, 2011 /Automotive PR News/ -- It is a cruel and sobering fact that the leading cause of death for minors in the United States is auto accidents say the Miami Personal Injury Lawyers at Grossman Roth, P.A. One Florida Representative, Republican Irving Slosberg, is working to fight the statistics at the heart of the matter by combating what is causing the accident itself. Last week Slosberg visited the students at Olympic Heights High School in West Boca to speak about his plans to make it illegal for minors in Florida to use their cell phones while driving.

Slosberg's message, say the Miami Car Accident Attorneys, is clear and to many experienced drivers sounds like common sense. Miami teens at Olympic Heights and other high schools across Florida are urged not to overcrowd vehicles, not to speed and to pay attention while driving. Additionally, Slosberg is out to inform young drivers in Florida about his proposed legislation.

The bill, called the Minor Traffic Safety Act, would ban cell phone use while driving for Florida residents under 18 years of age say Miami Car Accident Attorneys. Under this act, minors who are caught using their cell phone while driving are subject to being ticketed by law enforcement. A limit to the number of minors who can ride as passengers with a teen driver would be put in place and teen drivers would need to display a tag from their rear-view mirrors identifying them as minors. An add on to the bill includes a ban on school bus drivers from using their phones while operating the bus.

Many other states have similar bans on cell phone use while driving and there is a national ban on texting while driving for school bus and truck drivers. The Miami Personal Injury Lawyers at Grossman Roth see many traumatic auto accidents caused by the distracted driving. Slosberg is hopeful that if the bill is passed, the new legislation will help to save lives.

All Florida drivers, regardless of age, are urged to be on alert and eliminate distractions while on the roads. If involved in an auto accident caused by a distracted driver contact the Miami Car Accident Attorneys at Grossman Roth for a complimentary case evaluation.
