Todd Lesonko "The Pirate" Sets Sail
Todd "The Pirate" Lesenko takes the nitro nostalgia Funny Car circuit by storming proving once again he is no rookie behind the wheel of a nitro flopper.
ST. ALBERT, AB, CANADA, April 07, 2010 /Automotive PR News/ -- The Jolly Rogers Team may be new to the vintage Funny Car circuit but they are definitely not rookies! Todd Lesenko, owner and driver of the Jolly Rogers, demonstrated his ability to stay calm while under pressure during March Meet qualifying. Friday, day one of the 52nd Annual March Meet qualifying driver of the Pizza Haven Funny Car swapped lanes and bumped Lesenko's right rear tire after Lesenko backed out due to tire shake. Saturday, day two of qualifying and the driver of the War Horse also jumped into the Jolly Rogers' lane, fortunately Todd and new crew chief Jon Wurtz had the Camaro hooked up running a 6.14 E.T. securing him the #9 qualifying spot. They were one of only four Funnies to make it down the track on Saturday and after that exhilarating run Todd joked, "I thought this was drag racing and I keep getting these guys that want to DRAFT."
Todd's enthusiasm for the sport and support of the spectators makes the Jolly Roger pit a must visit. Lesenko says, "I feel fortunate to be here and my job as the driver is to participate in marketing and promotions. I stop whatever I am doing to make sure the fans feel appreciated."
Saturday afternoon Todd made a special appearance at Vintage Fuel's midway space to sign autographs followed by filming a feature for Vintage Fuel TV called Funny Business.
Round one on Sunday "The Pirate" faced Mike Halstead in Mark Stuckey's new Mustang body Funny Car. Lesenko lost to Halstead's 5.929 E.T.
The Jolly Rogers team is headed to Funny Car Fever in Sacramento next followed by Vegas in May where they will be joining Vintage Fuel for the Funny Business Party on May 28th and Rockabilly Rod Reunion on May 29th and 30th.
