NHRA Driver Marty Nothstein Finishes Fourth in 2010 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race
Nothstein finishes three seconds behind winner Jimmy Vasser in charity race in Long Beach, California
CHICAGO, IL, April 20, 2010 /Automotive PR News/ -- NHRA Funny Car driver Marty Nothstein finished fourth overall in the 34th Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race held Saturday, April 17, 2010 in Long Beach, California.
Nothstein, who will make his NHRA pro debut later this season, finished three-seconds behind pro and overall race winner Jimmy Vassar, who beat out Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust for the win. Actor Brian Austin Green, who is best known for his role on Beverly Hills 90210, won the celebrity part of the race and third overall. The six pro racers were given a 30-second handicap at the start of the race.
Nothstein, who competed in the 2008 Toyota Pro/Celebrity event, squared-off with eleven celebrities, four pros and three special guests in the 10-lap race, featuring identically prepared, race-ready Toyota Scions. The Toyota Pro/Celebrity race, which raises money for children's hospitals in southern California, is a support race for the Indy Racing League's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
"It was a great weekend, for a great cause," said Nothstein, who with the help of his sponsor Texas Roadhouse, is putting the finishing touches on his 2010 race plans that will see him make his pro nitro debut. "Thursday's visit to Children's Hospital was once again the highlight of the weekend. Winning the race is secondary once you spend an afternoon with the kids, who are facing challenges in their battles to overcome serious illnesses."
"This was an exciting and entertaining race," said Les Unger, national motorsports manager with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. "These drivers battled the entire race, and the crowd responded. Every participant was hungry to take home the trophy and brought their A game to the competition. The drivers remained intensely focused throughout their training, and yesterday's practice and qualifying sessions. Their commitment and enthusiasm exemplify the spirit of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race."
Heading the list of celebrities at this year's event was 2009 celebrity winner Keanu Reeves, who raced in the pro category this year. Other celebrities included Academy Award winning actor Adrien Brody; radio and television host Adam Carolla; television and film actors Anthony Anderson, Brian Austin Green, Patrick Warburton, Christian Slater, Tika Sumpter and Zachary Levi, plus iconic skaterboarder Tony Hawk.
